Chest Division, Department of Internal Medicine, Kaohsiung Veterans General Hospital

The Chest Medicine Division of Kaohsiung Veterans General Hospital was created in 1990. Since that time, we provide best service to our patients and we are responsible for clinical care, research and teaching in the field of pulmonary medicine.

Our services of working, teaching activities and fields of research include : Infectious diseases : pneumonia, lung abscess, empyema, tuberculosis, etc.

Malignancy : Bronchogenic carcinoma, lung and pleural metastasis, and mesothelioma.

Airway diseases : asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disorder, small airway diseases, and bronchiectasis, etc.

Pleural diseases : effusion, empyema, and malignant pleural effusion, etc.

Critical care medicine : management of sepsis, ventilator support and weaning, and hemodynamic monitoring.

Our division provides in-patient hospital care, out-patient clinic service, education of patients and doctors about critical care and invasive procedure management.  Besides services, we majored in education and teaching profiles. Weekly academic activities include special lectures, CXR conference, journal meeting, discharge and mortality conference.  There are also regular teaching rounds in the wards every day and teaching clinics every month.  Our fellows are assigned to different areas of pulmonary medicine training, critical care medicine, and invasive procedures.  By the improvement of a variety of diagnostic procedure and treatment, our staffs provide perfect and professional service to our patients.
