Cardiology Section Current status

Cardiology of Kaohsiung Vetrans General Hospital was created in 1990. Since that time, we provide best service to our patients. The team of cardiology includes one chief, one chief of intensive care unit, eleven attending physicians, five resident doctors and fourteen technicians. We supply non-invasive examinations including transthoracic echocardiography (TTE), transesophageal echocardiography (TEE), 3-D echo image, stress and contrast echocardiography, treadmill exercise tests (MXT), 24-HRs ECG monitor (Holter EKG), 24-HRs BP monitor and 12-lead surface ECG for all patient visiting our hospital. We have 42 ordinary beds and 11 ICU for our CV patients. We service more than 90,000 people per year in our CV OPD clinics. We have 3 cath labs, there are more than 3,000 cases to take interventional treatment and studies. For example, diagnostic cardiac catheterization, percutaneous transluminal angioplasty with stentting (coronary, renal, carotid and other peripheral vessels; PTCA, PTA with stent), coronary rotabrator angioplasty, implantation of permanent pacemaker (PPM, including any modes available), implantable cardioverter-defibrillators (ICD), cardiac resynchronized therapy (CRT), and radiofrequncy ablation of any kinds of arrthymia. Despite of services, we also emphasize in education and researches. The weekly academic activities include special lectures, EKG conference, image conference, invasive cardiology conference, morbidity-mortality conference, and cardiology cardiovascular surgery combined conference. There are regular teaching ward rounds and morning meetings in cardiology wards. Cardiology fellows are assigned to different areas of cardiology for training. Researches include clinical and basic researches. The fields in hemodynamic, invasive cardiology, echocariographic image, hypertension, lipid disorders, atherosclerosis, arrhythmias, and device therapy are all with good achievement.We also encourage the cardiology fellows to participate in cardiovascular researches. Due to improvement of a variety of diagnostic procedure and treatment, our staffs received education and clinical training continuously for providing perfect and professional care to our patients.
