       Department of Emergency Medicine provides comprehensive emergency medical service to the people in a compassionate and professional manner. The Department offers a full spectrum of emergency and urgent care services which includes internal medicine, trauma, surgery, pediatrics, obstetrics and gynecology, ophthalmology, dentistry, otolaryngology, and psychiatry. Our state-of-art facility includes on-site laboratory, dedicated multislice CT scanner, self-contained radiology suites, and independent operated pharmacy and registry.

  As the demand for emergency care had increased over the past several years, a total of 7,000 patients are currently seen in the Emergency Department each month. And to meet the needs of a high volume, tertiary-care patient population, the new “Emergency Building” was constructed in 2003. The new building provides a spacious resuscitation, treatment, and waiting area. The newly established 24-bed ICU and 52-bed acute admission ward ensures quality care for complex medical challenges. A standard helipad located on top of the building provides a quicker response to air rescue.

  To provide the highest quality emergency and urgent medical care to patient in the Kaohsiung and Pintung area, various efforts had been made, which includes computerized emergency operations, implementation of standard operation procedures, strengthened medical training, and highest standard for patient safety. Also, our emergency department is staffed by a multidisciplinary team of full time emergency medicine specialists. The Department not only renders emergency care to the sick and injured, it also fosters emergency trauma training, and participates in the planning of the emergency medical network in Kaohsiung and Pintung area. Education programs and training courses including emergency medical technician training course, advanced cardiac life support course, emergency trauma training course, and disaster medical assistance team training course are held regularly. The Department is also an active participant in various disaster drills. With experiences and participation in various training courses, our Department has become the leading institute in emergency medical and trauma training.
