  Introduction

The section of Neurology was established in 1990 , when Kaohsiung Veteran General Hospital was
first built.

It was belonged to Department of Internal Medicine with 30 available beds. It was a certified training
center for neurology specialist.

Medical Services

We provided outpatient and hospitalization services , and the following specialized tests for patients with
nervous system disorders :

1. Electroencephalogram/Video monitoring

2. Nerve conduction velocity, electromyography ( NCV/EMG )

3. Evoked potential and autonomic nerve studies ( SSEP/VEP/AEP )

4. Neurosonography ( Carotid duplex, B-mode & TCD )

5. Neuropsychological examination

6. Transcranial magnetic stimulation


Education & Training

There is teaching staff : one associate professor , one lecturer .

We accept students from the department of medicine of some universities or colleges for internship .

We accept DOH entrustment to train specialist of neurology .

Morning meetings and panel discussions on pathology , mortality and image diagnosis are arranged regularly .


Medical Research

The visiting doctors of section of Neurology are subdivided into several special research fields :

(1) Cerebrovascular diseases and Epilepsy : chief Lo Yuk-Keung

(2) Dementia : Dr.Lin Yu-Te

(3) Movement disorder : Dr.Li Jie-Yuan
 


Medical Quality Control

Because the certain amount of patient with nervous system disorders have the sequelae , and need
further chronic care after discharge , we established the action term for preparation of discharge to promote
further service and arrangement of patient after discharge .

Otherwise , we followed the “Medical QC Assessment Committee” and “Hospital Infection Control
Committee” to promote medical quality control and to prevent hospital infection .
