Introduction
The VGHKS department of ophthalmology provides primary care and serves as a main referral center for outpatient and inpatient medical and surgical care in the southern Taiwan. We offer seven major subspecialty services include: 1. Pediatric Ophthalmology and Neuro-Ophthalmology Services: Strabismus, neuro-ophthalmology, optic neuropathy, amblyopia, etc. 2. Oculoplastics Services: Ophthalmic plastic and reconstructive surgery: e.g. ptosis, double-fold eyelid, trichiasis, ocular and orbital oncology, cosmetic surgery, etc. 3. Glaucoma Services: Medical and surgical treatments of glaucoma 4. External disease and cornea: Keratitis, conjunctivitis, corneal ulcer, dry eye syndrome, etc. 5. Vitreo-Retinal Ophthalmology Services: Retinal detachment, diabetic retinopathy, age-related macular degeneration 6. Uveitis Services 7. Refractive Surgery l Cataract is one of the most common diseases in our clinics. Patients can schedule their appointments at any one of the subspecialty services. l The Refractive Surgery Unit: We utilize a mainstream flying small-spot laser beam system to correct nearsightedness, farsightedness, and astigmatism. (Please contact the consultant, Ms Shin-Yun Wang, for detailed information.) l Teaching clinic is held every Thursday afternoon. By appointment only. News: Our department introduced the latest technology, intravitreal Lucentis injection, to treat retinal diseases, such as age-related macular degeneration and pathologic myopia.
